Collectively, the Board has significant management and financial expertise and a history of service to the community. Some members of the Board sit on the Net Proceeds Committee.
Brian Counihan, Chairman
Brian became Chairman of Pub Charity Limited in January 2018. He has enjoyed a very successful career path in the hospitality industry commencing as an apprentice chef in Canterbury culminating with a position at Expo '70 in Osaka, Japan. Hotel management beckoned and for the next 30 years Brian was involved at the top level during which time a course at Cornell University, New York, was completed. A period in Fiji also included PATA Fiji and board member of the Fiji Hotel Assn. Brian currently enjoys gardening, bowls, semi-retirement and a directorship.
Bill McLean, Director
Bill has maintained a long involvement with the hospitality industry, both in New Zealand and overseas. His purchase of another 'Bar & Café' establishment in Feilding has brought Bill back up to the North Island where he maintains a strong interest and involvement in various sporting codes (which in the past included being a founder member of the Manawatu Rugby Board and a committee member of the Manawatu Racing Club).
Rod Lingard, Director
As Director New Zealand for Right Management, a global management consulting firm specialising in people development and management strategies, Rod is well-placed to assist the Trust board in guiding and supporting the management team. Rod is a member of the Institute of Directors, a trustee of Workbase (National Centre for Workforce Literacy & Language) and chairman of an olive oil processing company. Rod's close links to political and business networks provide helpful insights into government policies that may affect Pub Charity Limited's community activities.
Carter Hayes
Carter has worked in the liquor industry for over 35 years and has been involved in the ownership and operation of taverns. In the industry he has developed a leading role in managing and operating gaming machines from the time when class 4 venues were licenced to operating only two gaming machines through to the busy 18 machine site, and consulting with manufacturers in the design and development of gaming machines and obtaining operational experience. He has an industry of financial involvement on company boards. He has also been an executive member and president of industries. His involvement with the industry outside gaming takes into account livestock farming and the heavy machinery and trucking industry.
Simon Norrie
Simon joined the Board of Pub Charity Limited in early 2018. He is an experienced company director who has a financial markets background in Foreign Exchange broking and trading of nearly 30 years, both in New Zealand and internationally. In 2015 he also became an owner of a manufacturing business in Wellington. Simon enjoys business and its many challenges and likes networking and meeting new people daily. He is married with 3 children and enjoys golf and fly fishing.
