Our Board

Our Board oversees the financial and operational activities of Pub Charity Limited and the integrity of our grants process.

Collectively, the Board has significant management and financial expertise and a history of service to the community. Some members of the Board sit on the Net Proceeds Committee. 

Brian Counihan, Chairman

Brian was appointed Chairman of Pub Charity Limited in August 2022. Brian has enjoyed a successful 30-year management career path in the hospitality industry commencing as an apprentice chef in Canterbury. Brian has extensive governance experience in the gaming industry and is currently also the Chairman of the Pub Charity Limited Net Proceeds Committee.

Dianna Taylor, Deputy Chair

Dianna is Wellington based with an extensive experience in Operations, IT and Governance. She sits on the Board of Te Omanga Hospice and has been the acting CEO of Fish and Game, and was previously the Chief Information Officer at the TAB. Dianna brings diverse commercial and not-for-profit experience to the Board and expertise in operational and technical disciplines that will be invaluable to our strategy, governance and compliance.

Simon Norrie

Simon joined the Board of Pub Charity Limited in early 2018. He is an experienced company Director who has a background in finance and Foreign Exchange both in New Zealand and internationally. Simon owns and operates a manufacturing business in Wellington.

Steven Brokenshire

Steven is Wellington based, a Chartered Accountant and recently retired Partner at Deloitte, and has extensive experience in commercial strategy. Steven brings diverse commercial and not-for-profit experience to the Board and expertise in operational and technical disciplines that will be invaluable to our strategy, governance and compliance.

Martin Cheer: Managing Director

Martin was Chief Executive of PCL from 2012 to 2022 and was appointed as Managing Director in November 2022. Martin has been involved in the gaming industry since 2005 and is currently on the Board of the Gaming Machine Association of New Zealand. Martin has over 20 years of experience in senior management roles in operations, compliance and risk management and has an MBA from the University of Auckland.
